[Sunday scoop] My Library Book Stash #1: Raiding the YA Shelves

My Library Book Stash #1: Raiding the YA Shelves
I borrowed more than this, but the pregnant tote bag on the floor is too unsightly to share.
I always tell myself I'm going to get three, or at the most, five books. But no...I walk out of the Imperial Beach Library with a whole bagful of books in my reusable nylon tote bag. >_< >

>
I even had more at first, but put some back. These are ordered by author's last name, and the summaries are taken from the backs of the books or on the inside pages with the ISBN numbers.>

>Total: 13 books - 1 book (missing pages) = 12 books to read!>

Published: 2009
Genre: YA / contemporary / privileged
Summary: While Madison ponders revenge and a possible modeling career, Casey fears she has lost herself by adapting fully to luxurious New York City life, and Phoebe keeps a secret, Sophie seeks to bring her birth mother to her sixteenth birthday party.

A book about rich girls living in the Upper East Side. Read my review here.>

House of Many Ways (Sequel to Howl's Moving Castle) by Diana Wynne Jones
Published: 2008
Genre: YA / Fantasy
Summary: When Charmain is asked to housesit for Great-Uncle William, the Royal Wizard of Norland, she is ecstatic to get away from her parents, only to find that his house is much more than it seems.

If you haven't read Howl's Moving Castle, you should. It's a light-hearted, funny, and charming novel, and provides more insight to characters than you see in the anime. >

My Library Book Stash #1: Raiding the YA Shelves
Firelight by Sophie Jordan
Published: 2010>
Genre: YA / Urban Fantasy
Summary: When sixteen-year-old Jacinda, who can change into a dragon, is forced to move away from her community of shape-shifters and start a more normal life, she falls in love with a boy who proves to be her most dangerous enemy.

Dragon-people in a high school setting? I'm going to enjoy this. From what I've found on my favorite book-trading site, this book is insanely popular. Soon I'll find out what the buzz is about.>

The Iron King (Iron Fey #1) by Julie Kagawa
Published: 2010
Genre: YA / Urban Fantasy
Summary: Strange events lead to Meghan Chase discovering that she is the daughter of a mythical faerie king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now she will learn just how far she will go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face...and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.
I saw a bookmark of this series once, but I finally saw a book from the series at the library. I love faerie fantasy. It seems like a trend in the YA fiction world that hasn't hit Hollywood yet. >

The Friday Society by Adrienne Kress
Published: 2012
Genre: YA / Steampunk / Mystery / Adventure
Summary: Cora, Nellie, and Michiko, teenaged assistants to three powerful men in Edwardian London, meet by chance at a ball that ends with the discovery of a murdered man, leading the three to work together to solve this and related crimes without drawing undue attention to themselves.
A steampunk novel! And it seems to poke fun at the times. The cover art looks amazing, too. Read my review here.>

>My Library Book Stash #1: Raiding the YA Shelves
Huntress (Prequel to Ash) by Malinda Lo
Published: 2011
Genre: YA / Fantasy / Lesbian
Summary: Seventeen-year-old Kaede and Taisin are called to go on a dangerous and unprecedented journey to Tanlili, the city of the Fairy Queen, in an effort to restore the balance of nature in the human world.
A Chinese-influenced YA fantasy novel! Now this is going to be epic. >

Poseur (Poseur #1) by Rachel Maude
Published: 2008
Genre: YA / Contemporary / Fashion / Privileged
Summary: Four prep school girls clash when they try to form their own fashion label for a school assignment, but they ultimately discover that their differences make for surprisingly creative results.
This book looks super-cute--it has fashion sketches and little emails that the girls send to each other. Even better: the back of the book hosts some great DIY fashion projects for you to make your own clothes. I'm excited! >

>Update: My Review of Poseur>

The Good, the Fab and the Ugly (Poseur #2) by Rachel Mande

Summary: Halloween comes to Winston Prep and the newly named teen fashion label Poseur introduces this season's must-have accessory: a red-hot handbag called the Trick-or-Treater. But whose design is sweetest? Janie, Petra, Melissa, and Charlotte all insist: Mine.
I picked this one for the Halloween theme, since fall is coming up! >

My Library Book Stash #1: Raiding the YA Shelves
Starlet by Randi Reisfeld
Published: 2007
Genre: YA / Contemporary / Privileged
Summary: Jacey Chandliss, winner of a reality TV show, moves to Hollywood to start her acting career as an insanely famous celebrity.
Oh, the things you can do with money and fame. Read my review of Starlethere.>

>My Library Book Stash #1: Raiding the YA Shelves
Adored (It Girl #8) by Cecily Von Ziegesar
Published: 2009
Genre: YA / Contemporary / Privileged
Summary: Brett Messerschmidt is organizing Waverly Academy's annual holiday ball and secret gift exchange. But when some enterprising students decide that playing Secret Satan is definitely more fun, the entire school starts acting naughty. All Brett wants is a successful party--and a goodnight kiss from unexpected crush Sebastian Valenti. Too bad Callie Vernon also has her eye on the newly made-over Sebastian. Sharing is caring, right? Or not...
I'm liking the It Girl series more than the Gossip Girl series because the characters here, while still bitchy, are sweeter overall.>

>My Library Book Stash #1: Raiding the YA Shelves
Gossip Girl, Psycho Killer by Cecily Von Ziegesar
Published: 2011
Genre: YA / Contemporary / Privileged / Satire
Summary: A bloody reimagining of the original Gossip Girl novel takes backstabbing to new heights.
Cecily Von Ziegesar writing a spoof of her own series? Priceless! Check out my review.>
My Library Book Stash #1: Raiding the YA Shelves
Poison by Bridget Zinn
Published: 2013
Genre: YA / Fantasy

Summary: When sixteen-year-old Kyra, a potions master, tries to save her kingdom by murdering the princess, who is also her best friend, the poisoned dart misses its mark and Kyra becomes a fugitive, pursued by the King's army and her ex-boyfriend Hal. >

>Currently reading! So far she seems to have a delightfully playful imagination. The book flap on the back made me sad because it says that Bridget died in 2011 (and she was so young), so it looks like this will be the only book we will ever get from her. My condolences to her family. >
My review of Poison>

>What are some of the books you've read so far from this list? Which sounds interesting? Any recommendations for my next trip to the library? >

>Thanks for reading!>
